Resolve “No Data Set Access”

Learn how to fix insufficient permissions in your report.

“No Data Set Access”

Encountering a “No Data Set Access” or “Insufficient Permissions to the underlying data set” error can be frustrating. This guide will help you resolve access issues, ensuring all users can view the data in your Looker Studio reports. When using the Looker Studio API (our one-click setup process) to create a new report, it’s crucial to change the data credentials from Viewer’s (default) to Owner’s. This step is essential, especially when copying templates. This is a common issue with data sources like GA4 and Google Search Console (GSC).

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Enter Edit Mode:
    • Open your Looker Studio report using the email address that is the owner of the report. Click on the Edit button to modify your report.
  2. Manage Data Sources:
    • Navigate to the Menu, select Resource, and then click on Manage Added Data Sources.
  3. Edit Data Source:
    • Identify and click on the data source experiencing the access issue. Click Edit to modify its settings.
  4. Change Data Credentials:
    • In the data source settings, change the data credentials at the top from Viewer’s to Owner’s. This adjustment grants all users who have access to your Looker Studio report the ability to view the data, even if they do not have direct access to the data source itself.
